2008 Jeep Liberty pricing announced alongside new features and lowered base price

With new features and advancements, it seems as though Jeep wants to make sure shoppers will be able to find a 2008 Liberty for just about any need or budget.

Redesigned from the ground up, Chrysler group has slashed $2,695 from the price of the base 4x4, while adding more cargo and rear-seat legroom, a more functional interior and even an industry-exclusive Sky Slider roof system. The latter is a canvas roof mechanism which opens completely, giving passengers a wide-open view of the sky above. Pricing for the Sky Slider is $1,525.

The model lineup includes the Jeep Liberty Sport, Jeep Liberty North Edition and Jeep Liberty Limited.

$27,695 starts the bidding for a base "Sport" model 4x4, not including destination. A 4x2 model is not available.

The mid-range Liberty North starts at $28,545 and comes with added features including fog lamps, window tint, a premium stereo system and fold-flat passenger seat.

At $32,795, buyers can get into a Liberty Limited, with upgrades including leather seats, power heated mirrors, an alarm system and 17" wheels.

"The all-new 2008 Jeep Liberty is a critical next step in our Jeep product offensive," said Judy Wheeler, Vice President of Marketing at DaimlerChrysler Canada. "Our goal with the new Liberty is to leverage a lower MSRP price and our 4x4 leadership to appeal to a wider range of Canadians who desire an authentic sport-utility vehicle."

Authentic indeed. Liberty's system isn't a wimpy all-wheel drive, but rather one which diverts power from the familiar 3.7-litre V6 engine to all four tires via Jeep's Command-Trac II system, or optionally through the advanced Selec-Trac II system. Both include a low range setting and offer unprecedented driver control in any terrain.
