Jeep jazzes up the Compass's interior for 2009

The Jeep Compass has become popular buy for many reasons, but its interior was likely never one of them. The adventuresome Chrysler brand has just announced that for 2009, its entry-level model's interior would be re-designed with a new instrument panel, a new console and added storage.

The move will help to increase value and comfort for upcoming owners of the compact SUV, while addressing concerns about its plain and low-scale interior appointments.

The 2009 Compass's gauge cluster will feature a smoother look, and chrome accents will be applied to brighten up the now-rounded heating and air conditioning ducts. The shift bezel and instrument cluster rings will wear chrome for dress-up as well.

Padding has been installed to the door trim panels and centre arm-rest for added comfort, and LED-illuminated cupholders borrowed from the Dodge Caliber make it easier to set beverages down safely at night. The re-thought centre console now uses a split lid for more storage capacity, and several updated paint colors are available too.

Jeep officials say that shoppers can expect a full suite of safety and convenience features as standard, as well as a quieter and more comfortable ride.
